Journey

The aim of this page is not to list accomplishments and accolades; rather, it provides an insightful and personal look into a bit of who Jerry is by highlighting his past.

Jerry’s Journey:

Starting from YMCA to NJB to club and finally highschool JV and varsity, Jerry has played competitive basketball for as long as he can remember. Basketball was his sole passion and Kobe his sole idol from the get-go, but this passion was suddenly disrupted at the start of senior year. Due to some off-season rumors that spread to the coach, Jerry made a rash decision to withdraw from the team his final year of high school. This ultimately led to a downward spiral. Relinquishing basketball allowed Jerry to put his time into other activities. Due to a rebellious mentality, lack of priorities, and peer influence, most of these activities yielded negative impacts. Basically, this was Jerry’s coming of age year (just turned 18) and he wanted to exercise his newfound freedom. For 8 months after dropping varsity, Jerry gradually ate less consistent meals, stayed out later, attended class less, and drifted from family. In essence, Jerry made bad decisions. Being too ignorant for realization, Jerry’s mental, physical, and academic health deteriorated while his family relationships followed suit. This trend continued after graduation until Jerry hit the bottom of rock bottom. Out partying on a mid-summer night, he made an impaired decision that led into totaling his mom’s Lexus, going to jail for a night, getting his license suspended, and receiving a DUI. If freewill symbolizes a gun, then Jerry went trigger-happy. In the end, he only shot himself. At this point, Jerry was staring into the abyss, and the abyss stared right back.

As tragic as it sounds, this is Jerry’s biggest blessing since birth. Ignorance is stagnant and acceptance is progress. Once Jerry came to terms with reality, he reflected on his mistakes and learned a lot about himself. Through reflection, Jerry identified the trigger of his downwards spiral. Grazing the trigger would be to say that Jerry gave up basketball and stupidly spent his time. Squeezing the trigger is the fact that living without passion is living passive. Passivity is the opposite of productivity, and a lack of productivity will make anything spiral downwards. With this insight, Jerry made steps toward improvement. Through reflection, Jerry improved his life. Since the DUI, Jerry has been blessed.

Stay Woke. Stay Passionate. Stay Blessed.

Stay Broke. Stay Passionless. Stay Stressed.
